Dear reader,

This year I decided to start a monthly wrap-up of my work, and there is no better time to do it than half-way through the year. Except for maybe in January, but anyway.

My goal here is three-fold. First and foremost this is a way for me to increase my writing output (selfish, I know). I am not a prolific writer by any standard, I typically publish one maybe two stories a month. And this is a way to keep me on my toes, write more.

Secondly, this is a way for me to share my thoughts on my own work. Because my writing is often based on the news article format, it tends to be impersonal. I like it that way; I want the story to speak for itself. However, this deprives me of sharing my thoughts on the subject with readers, something that I feel is lacking. I have left “Author’s notes” at the end of stories sometimes, but that hasn’t worked out great. So I am trying this new format.

Finally, these wrap-ups are going to be a way for me to prototype a future newsletter that I would like to launch. I am experimenting in a way.

So, having said that…

Welcome to my first monthly wrap-up!
